Epping Forest College
The approach to Epping Forest College in Debden is impressive
with a modern, 2 year old building housing a large open reception
area. The 'Escape Restaurant' located here is open to students,
staff and the general public. Debden library, is also to be found
here as it is very much part of the local community. You can see
for yourself at one of the open events in 2010.
Monday 29th March, 6pm - 8pm
Saturday 26th June, 10am - 2pm
Quentin Buller, Head of Marketing, showed me round the College
buildings. The central walkways on each floor are well lit with
lots of open space giving a welcoming, calm feel to the place. The
modern classrooms, library and resource centre are all well
equipped with up to date IT resources. Three wings at the back of
the building house a theatre and motor vehicle and construction
trades workshops.
The College extends a warm welcome and pride themselves on their
professional and caring attitude. A wide range of full and part
time courses are offered to students of all ages from 14 upwards
including GCSE, A level, vocational and leisure. Increasingly
popular are the leisure courses open to people of all ages. There
are plans to expand the number and range of these.

Rooms can be hired to local groups for meetings etc.
The theatre is available for hire.
The College can provide training for local businesses on or off
campus.
These are just some of the ways the College is supporting the
local community.
How to get there
The College has ample car parking spaces and Debden tube station
(Central Line) is a five-minute walk away. The College is a five to
ten minute drive from junction 26 of the M25 and a five-minute
drive from junction 5 of the M11 (please note there is no
southbound exit and no northbound entry). The following buses stop
at the College or in Debden: 20, 167, 240, 250, 251, 397, 541, 542,
543, 575, 804 and H1 (please check details with bus companies).
Entrance to the College car park is in Borders Lane near the
front of the main building. I decided to try public transport to
get from North Chingford to the College. On the way there I took
bus no. 179 to South Woodford and then the tube to Debden. The
journey took about 40 minutes. On the way back I took bus no 397,
with the journey time being about 30 minutes.
